We motored to the mountains instead, through acres and acres of plastic shanties. It looked like Tunisia at its worse. In fact we did not see anything like it there on such a scale.
It was a long drive before we reached the undulating olives groves and sunflower fields. It was such a contrast; the sort of scene, which must have sent the impressionist painters scurraying excitedly to their paint brushes. It reminded me of a patchwork quilt.
The towns of Baeze and Ubeda were given the World heritage status in 2003. A well deserved accolade. There were architectural delights, with very few people about, except us “Mad dogs and Englishmen out in the midday sun!”
