When Xavier was born in 1976, Chris bought me a bamboo green Citroen Dyane which we christened Kermit the frog.. After 10 years good service and its body had disintegrated, we left it at the stables, where the girls would teach themselves to drive after riding. When we bought the farmhouse ín Gozo , I though it would be the perfect vehicle for the island. Over the winter Chris performed a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang type transformation and a reborn Kermit, in the form of an open jeep, appeared. It was shipped to Malta and has been on Gozo since 1987. Chris was very clever and sent me to Malta a week before he came so I could deal with the customs. After that experience I vowed never again would we import anything to Malta. The trauma was soon forgotten and Kermit turned out the perfect vehicle for Gozo. We gave it to Xav and Alex when we sold the farmhouse on the premise that we would have it when on the Island. Whilst in Malta 2 weeks ago, it went up flames whilst Xav was driving it. As the paint peeled from the bonnet Kermit’s froggy green skin was once more revealed We thought it was the end of an era, but the mechanic rewired it and after a quick lick of paint voila…. Kermit (which should be renamed Phoenix) is back in business and going like a little tiger.
