NEWS of SCORCH

CHRISTOPHER and GERALDINE have been travelling on their yacht 'SCORCH of WESSEX' since 3rd October, 2002.
They have spent the first 5 years in the Medditerean. They crossed the Atlantic in December 2007.
They are currently in the Caribbean.

WEBBED FEET

On our return to Curacao the change of weather was extreme; from crisp cold days to hot and steamy ones with 90% humidity. It took some adjustment and the recommissioning of Scorch was slow and dishabilitating. The drinking water consumption rose dramatically.

Chris has always been fascinated by men at work. What better way to pass a rainy day than watching a huge crane being floated onto a submersible cargo ship.

Floating Jacuzzi?...... anything goes on Spanish water.

Hurricane Tomas came and went leaving a trail of devastation in St. Lucia with 20 deaths. We did not escape, we caught the tail end and it rained 260 mm in 16 hrs. Half the yearly rainfall!. Apart from the drenching Scorch went up and down but on land the flooding caused 2 deaths and intense damage. As the water gathered speed it brought with it to Spanish water mud and the overflowing sewage. Swimming has been out of bounds.

The rain has been relentless. We are developing webbed feet but we are still wearing our bathers. It could be worse we could be parading in the latest snow boots and wearing thermals.... We are assured it is an unprecedented situation sadly there no improvement in sight.

Scorch, its Captain and 1st mate are ready to move on and dreaming of sunshine and sparkling water.

We are hoping to leave this week and to reach Puerto Rico for Christmas.
