CHRISTMAS in BOQUERON

We had no idea what form Christmas would take having just arrived. Primarily our thoughts were focused on the jobs needed to be done after a passage: clearing up inside and out of the boat, laundry etc.  We were delighted when few other sailors, moored in the Bay, suggested we should celebrate together.
Christmas in the sun never feels quite the same to us.  Decorations came out of moth balls and Christmas Eve drinks were served aboard Scorch!
No real Xmas tree this year!

Christmas morning was a delight sharing our family’s festivities courtesy of Skype and watching the grandchildren opening their presents!....

Early morning calls (5a.m for us!)

Lunch was booked for 10 al La Marea, a restaurant owned by a young Puerto Rican Chef trained in New York. We left it to him to produce the Christmas Fayre. It turned out a one of the best 7 course meal we have had for quite a time for the grand sum of US$30 per head plus wine!

Paul, a Canadian sailor, suddenly produced a deck of cards and entertained us with the most amazing card tricks which could threaten Paul Daniels’ career.

We eventually returned to Scorch at about 19hrs just as the Party spirit was taking grip of Boqueron.  It has the well deserved reputation as the Party Capital of Puerto Rico.  It is the Week-end haunt for Puerto Rico Bohemians and students.   The street parties are wild and noisy with the throaty sound of motor bikes parading along the main street.

We were lulled to sleep by the sound of crickets. It was the first time for a very long time we had heard them.
